Message from the Provost
As part of our ongoing effort to ensure that the MSU community enjoys a healthy campus, I am proud to announce a task force has been formed to guide the process of transitioning Michigan State University to a tobacco-free environment.
Led by the Office of the University Physician, the task force will guide campus and community leadership in the development, adoption, and implementation of a tobacco-free policy at MSU.
The rationale for this transition rests largely on a fundamental concern for the health of the entire campus community. Decades of research confirm the negative effects of smoking, smokeless tobacco, and environmental tobacco smoke. Moving toward implementation of a tobacco-free policy aligns with our efforts to create the healthiest academic and workplace environment possible at MSU.
I urge members of the MSU community to email TobaccoFree@msu.edu with concerns or questions. The MSU Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the Tobacco Free ordinance at their next meeting on June 17. 2015.
